Abstract
The effects of a multistage injection on combustion and exhaust emission were investigated with a single-cylinder diesel engine. Conditions of pilot injection were changed widely and main injection was divided into two portions and its dividing ratio was varied. The result showed that advance of pilot timing and increase of pilot quantity reduce NOx generated during the period pilot combustion. In addition, NOx was decreased further to lower combustion rate of main combustion by dividing main injection.
