Abstract
The present study investigates the applicability of a mixed 1D/2D model to predict the regeneration behaviour of an uncoated diesel particulate filter at different loadings and different engine operating points. The filter is loaded and regenerated on an engine test bench. The exhaust gas composition and gas temperatures before and after the filter, as well as pressure drops and monolithic temperatures at various radial and axial positions within the filter are measured. To monitor the regenerated soot a balance of carbon is done. By dint of the gradient of soot the frequency factors and activation energies of the reactions are fitted to one case of regeneration. Subsequent to calibration other regenerations under different conditions are computed and compared to measurements. It could be shown that calibrating the model to one case of regeneration leads to a set of parameters giving a good prediction of the regeneration behaviour of other measurements at varying conditions.
