Despite significant efforts, the phenomenon of brake squeal still remains unpredictable. Recently, piezoelectric shunt damping is proposed as an alternative approach to suppress squealing. It features a piezoceramics which is embedded into the brake model. At the electrodes an electrical network is connected with the aim to generate a dynamical behavior of the piezoceramics which counteracts the mechanical vibration.
In this paper, resonant networks featuring a negative capacitance and a switching shunt are discussed separately. An electromechanical multibody system of the brake with shunted piezoceramic is presented and stability analyses are carried out. The results are verified on a test rig with a modified brake prototype.
