M-COMFORT: Scaling, Positioning and Improving a Human Model

Abstract
Human models generated from real human data are increasingly used in simulation. Their benefits in terms of biofidelity, injury prediction or specific organ studies are important. Nevertheless, they lack the advantage of usual mannequin models, being easily plugged, resized or set in position.
In this paper we present M-COMFORT (Figure 1), a new set of tools which allows for these operations on the HUMOS2 human model [SERRE 00, ROBIN 01, SERRE 02, BEHR 03]. The first part of the tool resizes the model according to anatomic standard proportions (from the 5th to the 95th percentile, male and female [SERRE 04]). The second part allows for setting each body part in different configurations, positioning the model for any use. The last part helps to generate an organ from real human data, such as MRI or X-ray scanner, to plug it on the human model. Mainly developed for comfort studies, this set of tools can be used in wider applications as prosthesis design or car crash simulations.
