Abstract
This paper describes a new steel-belt continuously variable transmission (CVT) that Jatco put into production in November 2004 for use on front-wheel-drive cars powered by 2.0∼2.5L engines. This new CVT2 model has been developed to replace the existing Hyper-CVT. Its application will be extended to 2.0∼2.5L front-wheel-drive cars on a global basis, beginning initially with use in the Japanese market. And it was turned on to the US market following Japan. The successful development of this CVT2 model has completed for now the lineup of Jatco's new-generation CVT series that also includes the CVT1 and CVT3 for use with 1.4∼1.8L and 3.5L engines, respectively. The technologies developed for the new CVT2 and the improvements made over the previous CVT model are described here.
