Abstract
The fatigue properties of powder metal materials manufactured under different processing routes was investigated. Materials that were press and sintered, and surface densified or powder forged (P/F) were subjected to rolling contact fatigue (RCF) and single tooth bending (STB) fatigue testing. It was found that surface densified and P/F materials showed no difference in RCF properties. In terms of STB fatigue, a P/F material was superior to a surface densified material with a densification depth of 0.13 mm (0.005 in.).
