Abstract
The globalization and international competition has made the automotive buyers to be highly quality conscious. One of the major influencing parameters of the quality of a vehicle today is the vehicular comfort - in terms of Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH). NVH includes not only the quantity of sound and vibration, but also their quality. Sound quality plays an important role in the customer choice. Considerable literature is available to evaluate the sound quality of vehicles - both interior and exterior for passenger cars, but there is not much reported on two wheelers.
For a country like India, with the highest population of two wheelers, the customer demand for low noise two wheelers is increasing and hence the noise abatement of two wheelers is drawing a greater concern. The present paper deals with the sound quality analysis of a two-wheeler - comparison between a benchmark and a test vehicle. The objective and subjective evaluations of both vehicles were carried out to identify the source of the inferior sound quality of the test vehicle at idling.
