Test method with hardware-in-the-loop simulator (HILS) for heavy-duty HEVs was studied. It is a method of constructing HILS by the combination of each HEV element model and a real hybrid ECU, calculating the rotational speed and torque of the engine unit at the certification driving pattern, and examining exhaust gas of the engine unit on the engine dynamometer. Concerning a Series HEV, the error in engine work between HILS calculation and real vehicle measurement is within 2%.
