Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the influences of turbulence models on a calculated flow pattern and to grasp the feature of each turbulence model. Standard k-ε model, the improved k-ε models (RNG and Chen-Kim k-ε model) and LES were applied to a backward-facing step flow and a simplified steady intake-flow. The LES result was consistent with the experimental flow pattern in a cylinder. The improved k-ε models corrected overproduction of turbulence in an impact flow and a strong shear flow. Among these k-ε models, RNG k-ε model showed better agreement with the experimental results and had similar distribution of turbulent kinetic energy to the LES calculation result.
