Design Toolkit for Integration of Intelligent Transport Systems

During the last decade advances in communication technologies, computer system applications and embedded computational functionality have resulted in the increased complexity of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). Although individual systems have been continuously developed or addressing different transport issues, a design approach that enables the development of integrated systems has not been comprehensively investigated. The aim of this paper is to detail such an approach as part of the Foresight Vehicle Program in the UK. The developed methodology explains the process of integration throughout different stages of the design/development, ranging from user requirements elicitation to physical integration of different systems. The design process is performed using software toolkit that is also presented in this paper.
