Abstract
The paper is targeting solution to the problem of noise reduction in transmission of car, and light truck. The importance of gear mesh misalignment to gear noise is well established. It is customary to modify the gear micro-geometry to accommodate misalignment and minimize transmission error. Various feasible kinds of modification of a pinion tooth surface are considered. Topological modification of pinion tooth surface, if a proper design is accomplished, yields up to two times reduction of transmission errors. Reduction of transmission error results in corresponding reduction of noise excitation by gear train. An advanced technology of finishing of topologically modified pinion tooth surface for low-noise/noiseless car transmission is developed. The technology is oriented on application of a shaving cutter grinder with lack of CNC articulation. Lack of CNC articulation results in line contact of the shaver tooth surface and of the pinion tooth surface. In this concern, application of shaving cutter grinders that are capable of maintaining point contact of the shaving cutter and of the topologically modified involute pinion sounds most promising. An appropriate algorithm and computer software that are ready to be put into practice are developed as well.
