Content
With the introduction of consumer electronic devices, such as mobile phones, navigation systems, and DVD players, into the automotive environment, driver distraction has become an increasing challenge to automotive engineers and human machine interface (HMI) experts. Several studies have indicated that voice recognition (VR) is the answer to addressing driver distraction challenges. On the other hand, many VR critics claim that voice recognition simply adds to the cognitive load that one endures and further distracts the driver. Regardless of which perspective is believed to be true, VR has made its way into many consumer electronics and automotive applications. This document illustrates the challenges in introducing VR technology in an automotive environment.
