A Study of Swirl Formation Process in a 4-Valve Diesel Engine (First Report)~Air Flow Analysis of 2-Valve Intake Port per Cylinder in Heavy-Duty Diesel Engine

Recently heavy-duty diesel engines with 4 valves per cylinder have been developed resulting in substantially improved engine performance and exhaust emissions. In this paper, the swirl generating processes in a 2 valves per intake port are investigated by using both computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and steady state swirl test method in order to make good understanding the complicated air motions.
