Abstract
Proper working of diesel engine depends on non-failure operation of fuel injection system, especially high-pressure injection pump and injectors. One of the most important parameters for fuel consumption economy is correct injection timing. Most automotive diesel engines are timed on No.1 cylinder. Therefore, the injection advance angle can be obtained from pressure oscillation measurement in a single high-pressure fuel line. Proposed method of injection system diagnostics is based on injection pump and fuel line vibration measurement. The measurement is performed using monolithic differential capacitor sensor (accelerometer). instead of piezoelectric clamp. Due to information extracted from measured signal it is possible to find defect in injection system without dismantling the pump, high-pressure fuel lines or injectors.
