Authors Abstract
Content
The design of body-in-white parts must meet a large number of automotive design constraints (weight reduction, visibility improvement, cost reduction, development time management, new processes, etc.). For this purpose, the use of high strength steels (HSS) and VHS (very HSS) has increased substantially over the past ten years.
To further this process, Arcelor has worked in partnership with a design office (DUARTE Group) to develop a full range of innovative steel solutions. Examples are:
  • Superstructure parts: Hydroformed windshield side pillar
  • Platform parts: Multifacet spare-wheel accommodation, roll formed side member
Functional validation was carried out in order to ensure the potential integration of these generic designs in a complete vehicle design. Industrial feasibility validation was performed with the help of our forming specialists (from Arcelor Automobile Steel Solutions Centre)
The presentation will describe design principles, functional validation and industrial feasibility.
