Abstract
This paper reports on development and commercialization of a patented process for odorless bioconversion of organic solid wastes to methane and compost by anaerobic digestion. The SEBAC process can potentially serve as the principal solid waste management (SWM) component in a bio-regenerative advanced life support (ALS) system for long-range NASA space missions and planetary bases. It also has commercial terrestrial applications in a wide variety of solid waste management operations including, regional, municipal and community solid waste treatment; waste management in remote campgrounds, dude ranches, resorts, and military field bases; and processing of waste streams from agricultural, farm animal and food processing operations. The technology is patented and licensed, with marketing and sale of commercial systems already begun.
