Mitsubishi Automotive Engineering Co., Ltd., Japan, received ISO9001 Quality System certification in Feb. 1999, and ISO14001 Environment Management System certification in Feb. 2000 for 9 sites in Japan using a completely paperless (computer data originated) system, which was rare for an engineering company in Japan at that time.
Normally, implementation of an ISO system is thought to increase paperwork for the company. However, in our case, by using a paperless system, we eliminated large amounts of paperwork. In total, the savings amounted to 1.6 million pages in approximately 2 years for ISO 9001 and 14001 systems. This resulted in savings of 30 million yen per year, including labor costs for copying, sending and filing papers.
For ISO9001, we have developed and implemented a unique Process Management System, “Promanagement System”, which preceded the concept of the process oriented management system introduced in the year 2000 version of ISO 9001.
For ISO14001, we have included an LCA approach for designing environmentally friendly cars and trucks.
