Simultaneous PM and NOx reduction system in diesel exhaust gas

A new aftertreatment catalytic system has been developed for simultaneous and continuous reduction of particulate matters (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel exhaust gas. The catalytic converter is a porous ceramic structure coated with a NOx storage reduction catalyst. The proper rich pulse of air- fuel ratio not only provides high NOx reduction performance but also facilitates the PM oxidation with the active oxygen released during the reduction process of the stored NOx. These results show the effectiveness of this system in continuous and simultaneous NOx reduction and PM oxidation.
