Abstract
Two test procedures for evaluating the compatibility of automatic transmission fluids (ATFs) with wet friction materials have been standardized, as a part of JASO ATF subcommittee activities. One was a kind of stroking fatigue tests due to compression stress only. The other was a new fatigue test due to both compression and shear stresses, applied to the conventional synchronizer-ring tester. It was confirmed that their procedures have excellent discrimination between reference ATFs and good repeatability.
