the purpose of this paper is to describe the background and uses of the SAE J2430 Recommended practice for Dynamometer Effectiveness Test and the use of the BMC guidelines to characterize aftermarket friction material products as an advancement over the regular SAE J661 test, support the BMC resolution that aftermarket brake friction materials should not deteriorate vehicle performance below the applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard1.
