A true challenge for today's foundries is the continuously increasing demand for cost effective, but high quality castings. This demand can only be satisfied through the increased use of automation and efficient quality assurance, based on modern information management solutions.
In this context, the article introduces a new core- making facility concept that is based on the following tools and products:
  • A computer aided simulation tool to optimize logistical processes.
  • A fully automatic vision inspection system for the detection of core damages and processing of visual data of sand cores.
  • A modular, computer aided process control system for the recognition, analysis and visualization of all relevant production data in the core room.
