Simulation technique for poppet valve motion

In a design process of a hydraulic circuit, it is important to understand the valve stability. To predict the valve stability easily, we made the mathematical model of the hydraulic circuit for shift valve of ATM (automatic transmission). Flow force characteristics and discharge coefficient characteristics, which depend on the valve shape, are evaluated with CFD (computational fluid dynamics). And both characteristics are incorporated into the mathematical model. It is shown that simulation results of the valve stability are coincident with the experimental results and the valve shape affects the valve stability.
