Abstract
This paper presents a case study of the development of a novel high performance transmission fluid for application with a sintered lamella friction material in a new type of automotive 4WD wet clutch system.
The new limited slip wet clutch, which has been developed for automobiles with four-wheel drive (4WD) systems, requires a durable high performance type of lubricant.
Parameters such as base oil composition, the additive composition including the relative concentration of the components, and the sintered friction material have an extensive influence on the durability and the friction characteristics of the system. Also, the effects of temperature and pressure of the wet clutch system on the friction characteristics were found to be significant.
The fluid was developed to be compatible with water contamination up to a certain level.
