Abstract
The current emission legislation in India is shown, as well as regulations proposed for the future. An outlook is given on future European limits.
For Euro I emission compliance, the required technology is discussed. Typical engine specifications, and requirements to meet Euro I are listed. The development approach is shown.
The modifications to the engine design, necessary to meet Euro II limits, are explained. Also for Euro II, typical engine specifications and requirements are given. Particulate emission is discussed as a focal point of emission development. The specifications necessary for the FIE are given. As an outlook for future emission requirements, technology options for exhaust gas aftertreatment systems are discussed.
