This paper presents a system that in a first step removes the burden of the analytical test equipment and the test procedures from the overall test system. With the Global Emission Management (GEM) system we propose an open architecture software system utilizing the latest web-technologies like Active-X, VBScript, COM, D-COM in a Client/Server architecture1. Moreover, GEM provides a strong emission focused software base featuring a state of the art MS Windows NT customizable user interface, and industry standard tools. The system utilizes the same macro language as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and web pages for customizing the behavior of the system while simultaneously enhancing the ease of operation.
