Abstract
An air flow motion and fuel distribution in combustion chamber of a direct injection SI engine were measured by using of PIV and LIF. The fuel impinged on the cavity bottom surface and rolled up along the cavity wall near the spark plug by its own momentum. Then it was diffused by swirl flow. The effect of fuel injection timing was also investigated. Earlier injection made fuel momentum small up to the impingement timing. So, the fuel was pretty diffused by swirl and fuel concentration at the spark plug was low.
