Abstract
This paper deals with the evaluation of main bearing force and the calculation method that can analyze coupled vibration between crankshaft and cylinder block. Both are essential to predict engine airborne noise correctly. The experiments clarified that the main bearing force was amplified through the oil film because of its nonlinearity and that the main bearing moment component excited the bearing cap vibration, which is interlocking to the skirt vibration. We developed a new calculation method that considers the nonlinearity of oil films which transmit force and moment of the main bearing. It is confirmed that the experiment results validate the method presented here.
