This paper describes the variations in oil film thickness (OFT) of the piston ring-pack, measured with LIF method on the piston thrust side in the sliding direction. As the result, the oil control ring OFT differ extremely from the theory in the early down stroke. It increases from the lower ring tangential tension, and reduces from the thinner ring width. The scraper ring OFT develops a tendency to be similar to the oil control ring OFT through a cycle. The compression ring OFT is extremely thin in around the top dead center affected by the oil starvation condition.
