- This paper describes the use of an OSEK/VDX Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and an open, integrated development tools platform to allow a development down-flow for high-level Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) design entry and simulation/validation, rapid prototyping down to the target hardware for calibration and debugging and the up-flow by feeding the data collected from the target Electronic Control Unit (ECU) for system analysis and debugging all the way back to the entry CASE level. This project is on-going at present and further detailed technical results will be included in the presentation at the Congress. This paper gives an overview of CASE Tool development, OSEK/VDX (German phrase for Open System and Interface for in-Car Electronics/French phrase Vehicle Distributed eXecutive), the OSEK/VDX Implementation Language (OIL), the Integrated Development Environment (IDE), the RTOS, and finally how all these various elements are being brought together to provide a complete development platform.
