Abstract
The ongoing target to reduce the noise and vibration leads to the configuration of the crankcase in an upper part and a lower part in which the supports for the crank shaft bearings are already integrated. Difficulties in sealing the bed plate to the crankcase are evident when the material for the bed plate is Aluminum. A bed plate application allows only metal to metal contact. This is the reason why rigid gaskets are not suitable and why liquid gaskets are the only alternative. The right use of liquid gaskets for the bed plate will be illustrated in this report.
