The aerospace industry has identified material specifications as one of the stepping stones to qualified additively manufactured parts on commercial aircraft. The material specifications a long-time hallmark of SAEs contribution to the aerospace industry require data generated through AM test articles. To generate these test articles and the associated data, the aerospace industry identified that shared contributions of materials and services can accelerate the process and have banded together to start the SAE AMS - Additive Manufacturing Data Consortium (AMDC). o AMDC has moved forward to build data through test articles as well as incorporating Member-provided data reviewed through a common process control document (PCD) structure. The common PCD structure helps ensure the pedigree of the data from source to source. AMDC is also ensuring appropriate processes and permissions for data sharing and storage within the Consortium as well as with industry and regulatory partners. The Consortium Members will continue to refine these processes as they support the development of new AM material specifications. In addition to the benefit of cost-sharing the development of data for the material specifications, Members will also benefit through sharing experts and expertise throughout the AM value chain to reduce risk in future AM efforts.
