Automated driving system (ADS)-equipped vehicles are the subject of substantial research and development efforts around the world. To ensure that this technology is deployed safely and prudently, verification and validation (V&V) must be conducted to establish that the desired level of safety is achieved. V&V is a universal component of vehicle commercialization. However, the replacement of the human driver by the ADS to complete the dynamic driving task within the operating design domain of the ADS or ADS feature requires modified V&V methods to be developed and validated in order to evaluate these systems.
