The Applicability of Dimethyl Ether (Dme) to Compression Ignition Engine

Initial tests with neat dimethyl ether (DME) in compression ignition engine, were indicated promising engine performances which were compared with those obtained by using gas oil. The exhaust emissions from DME fueled diesel cycle engines, can be reduced to values of concentration and smoke density which significantly lower than gas oil fueled. Additionally, the experiment was tried in order to reduce of ignition delay period by fumigation.
