Abstract
This paper relates to a lightweight, high-performance vibration damping system. More specifically, it relates to a lightweight, elastomeric, viscoelastic mastic which, when laminated to an aluminum film, provides superior damping properties. The vibration damping properties are measured by loss factor and generally range from about 0.09 to 0.60 at temperatures of 0°C to 60°C for the systems described in this paper. This damping system performs favorably at low temperatures as well as at high temperatures. The specific gravity of this damping system ranges from about 1.20 to 1.30.
