A Partitioning Approach for Networked Automotive Systems

Electronic technology is applied in automotive systems as a basis for the implementation of new functional features. The increasing complexity and the distributed architecture of automotive control systems, in combination with an economical pressure for shorter design periods, give a challenge for electronic engineers. Since the partitioning of application functions is one of the main design problems, this paper introduces a hierarchical partitioning approach to support the complex design process. This comprises the decomposition of the application into parts and the assignment of these parts to hardware components on different levels. The object-oriented modeling method, also presented here, is shown to be an excellent basis for all partitioning steps.
