Abstract
Plastic materials have attracted much attention in recent years as substitutes for steel. Research work is under way in many areas on sandwich composite panels in particular because of their light weight and anisotropic nature, the latter giving them properties not found in isotropic steel. While sandwich composite panels possess various outstanding qualities, they display different mechanical properties than thin sheet steel, the main material used in making automobile body structures at present. As a result, before these panels can be applied to body structure, it is essential to have a good understanding of their characteristics and of the mechanical properties required of the parts for which they will be used. In this work, the authors used sensitivity analysis and other analytical approaches to clarify the mechanical properties required of a floor made of Laminated composite panels consisting of surface layers of FRP and a urethane inner core, what we call “Sandwich Composite Panels”(in the following,we call them sandwich composite panel). The stiffness of the body having a floor made of such panel and the floor vibration characteristics were also made clear.
