Abstract
It is considered “impossible” if diesel engines of the future do not meet emission legislation without the high added cost of a particulate trap. The piston and ring pack have key parts to play in the emissions development scene, particularly in respect of oil consumption level, combustion chamber form and top ring position. The paper will present some of the factors of piston ring and bore design related to these issues - the problems and solutions.
