Abstract
An overview of the main factors affecting performances of gas and steam turbine transonic profiles precedes presentation of an improved method for describing a loss system capable of predicting design point profile loss, in which the compressibility coefficients are dependent upon blade type, exit Mach number, and several key cascade geometric parameters. The proposed prediction method is tested against the known design point performance levels of 50 recent-design transonic profiles. Other effects on loss systems such as incidence, Reynolds number, surface roughness, and turbulence level are then briefly discussed.
