Abstract
Research in materials science is a top priority, especially in regard to automotive and diesel engines. Fuels currently used pollute the atmosphere, and present engines aren't very efficient. Design constraints due to available metals severely limit the production of more efficient, less polluting engines.
Interest in ceramics as engineering materials is due to dramatic improvements in their thermal and mechanical properties. Previously, ceramics were regarded as unreliable due to low fracture toughness.
This paper will follow the development of MgO PSZ to its present state covering salient property values and a variety of important current industrial applications. MgO PSZ is sure to solve many wear problems currently plaguing the Earth Moving Industry.
