Abstract
As a rule, specialist aluminium foundry alloys do not have the combination of properties necessary to ensure both ease of manufacture and excellent in-service performance. This is because one or two of the properties have been maximised, generally at the expense of the others. Accordingly, Comalco has developed an alloy in which a range of important properties has been optimised. This alloy, presently called 3HA, has excellent wear resistance, machinability, strength, castability and corrosion resistance. As a result, it has potential for use in a large number of demanding applications.
