Abstract
The vane type hydraulic pump has been a major source of accessory power for mobile equipment over the past 10–20 years. Developments in machine power requirements have been paced by pump developments as construction equipment, in particular, has become larger, more powerful, and more sophisticated.
Discussed in this paper are fundamental design aspects of vane pumps and the designs primarily utilized in present-day mobile applications. Construction, configuration, ratings and efficiencies are covered. The trend toward higher operating pressures is also considered.
