Abstract
Application of fixed wing acoustical criteria to helicopters have not served to ensure optimum environments for the helicopter mission, yet have often imposed unrealistic performance penalties.
In this paper the authors suggest means for establishing criteria for internal and external helicopter noise which will assist, rather than retard, the development of this mode of transportation while assuring adequate hearing protection for the passenger.
