Lycoming S&H The Compact Multifuel Engine

Abstract
A multifuel engine as light as a gasoline engine, as simple as a lawn-mower engine, and as robust as a truck diesel has been developed for the Army to power combat vehicles. The Lycoming S&H engine, in the making for 10 years, is the fruition of a concept study for the Ordnance Tank Automotive Command. It is a valveless, loop-scavenged, aircooled, two-cycle engine, made largely of aluminum, weighing only 5 lb/hp in the 4 cyl Vee model of 312 cu in. displacement, rated at 120 net bhp.
The paper discusses concept, design, performance on various fuels, cold starting, endurance, maintenance, and outlook.
