Real-Time Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Car Use Pattern Based on Usage History

This paper presents a real-time estimation method of car usage through one day from the present time based on the maximum-likelihood method and car use histories. First, we formulate the estimation problem as a combinatorial optimization problem to find the most plausible sets of start time and end time of the car usages. Second, in order to solve the formulated problem, we apply a searching algorithm based on greedy method, by which we are able to find the semi-optimal solutions in realistic short time. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by some experimental results.
