Development of GF-5 0W-20 Fuel Economy Gasoline Engine Oil
Published May 23, 2012 by Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan in Japan
We have developed GF-5 0W-20 gasoline engine oil seeking for further fuel economy (FE) improvement. To reduce friction under hydrodynamic lubrication condition, viscosity at low temperature was reduced. To reduce friction under boundary and mixed lubrication conditions, organic friction modifier was used, which effectively lowers friction under practical operation condition of engine with roller-type valve train system.
The oil significantly improved FE at EC mode compared with GF-4 0W-20 which utilized molybdenum friction modifier.
