Abstract
Vehicle sound package development is a delicate exercise of balance. The best combinations of damping, insulating and absorbing materials must be chosen in order to meet demanding performance requirements, within strict cost and weight constraints. This paper shows the new SEA-based tool implemented by Rieter to efficiently support the solution of this difficult problem in mid-high frequency also during early development. Exploiting existing material databases, taking into account global vehicle and single component targets, and using automatic optimization procedures, the best sound packages fulfilling given noise targets can be determined with a contemporary reduction in development time.
