Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present the static and dynamic modeling and simulation techniques employed by the Government (U.S. Army), General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) and United Defense Limited Partnership (UDLP) to develop and validate the Future Combat Systems Manned Ground Vehicle (FCS MGV) Power Distribution and Management System (PDMS). Information gathering included definition of vehicle electrical system states and modes, definition of the loads to be operated during the operating modes, and quantification of the current required during each mode. This information determines the modeling required to characterize the behavior of the selected variants and is supported by models of the propulsion, common system, and variant unique mission module components. The types of analyses considered are load priority, power timeline, switching transients, voltage drop, and servo control regeneration. Overall, the goals of performing these analyses are to verify that the PDMS meets the electrical system requirements for each variant of the FCS MGV program.
