Abstract
Several pathological conditions may cause stiffness of the spine limiting neck movements. When this happens, the spine becomes unable to respond to the acceleration and deceleration to which people are submitted to vehicles. The whiplash effect transfers to the neck. The impact may result in injuries, causing drastic and irreversible injuries. In the case of people committed with cervical stiffness, the danger becomes bigger, since the spine will not bend to absorb the impact. The aim of this paper is to alert the automobile industry about the need of specific head-restraints for vehicles to be sold in Brazil.
