Influence of air flow in cylinder on DME compression ignition engine

The atomization of DME (Dimethyl Ether) which has an excellent evaporation characteristic is promoted at the same time as fuel injecting. It is certain that fuel penetration weakens in the fuel injection, because the speed energy of DME made a gas decrease. Consequently, the decrease of the fuel penetration will control the chain reaction, and the mixture formation becomes difficult. In this research, it was made clear experimentally about the influence of air flow in the cylinder when the existent fuel injection system was used on the DME compression ignition engine. As a result, the stir of the gas by the swirl has a big effect on the combustion promotion and the exhaust gas improvement, and the combustion chamber form exerts the influence on engine performances in the low compression ratio.
