Analysis of Dynamic Bending Collapse of Hat Square Columns-Part Ii: Investigation of Mechanism of Bending Collapse and Guides for Reinforcements

The focus of this research is to analyze the mechanism of the dynamic bending collapse as outlined in previous research (Part I). As a result of the dynamic bending analysis by using FEM, it is clear that preventing out-plane deformation is one of the most effective methods to improve the maximum bending force of the vehicle component. In addition, the energy absorption of the vehicle component can be increased by the expansion of the plastic region of the components that are under compressive load condition.
